While the construction officially started in 1994, it took nearly two whole years just to build the island on which the building sits, followed by another three years for building the structure itself.

At the most, 2000 workers were working on making this building what it is today. 3. Dubai World Trade Centre

First inaugurated in 1979, the Dubai World Trade Centre or DWTC is historically known as the Sheikh Rashid Tower. The building has played a crucial role in boosting the city’s trade and tourism goals well over the past many years. The building has a specific purpose: conventions and exhibitions.

Consequently, DWTC is located in the financial district of Dubai, adjacent to the Sheikh Zayed road. Between 1979 and 1999, the DWTC used to be the tallest building globally. Although this building is no longer the tallest building in the entire world, it is still viewed as a symbol of the growth of international trade in the middle east.

Covering an area of about 1.3 million square feet, the DWTC also has some residential properties with plenty of amenities and benefits. The importance of the same is so much, especially financially, that the building is featured on the AED 100 note.

Did you know that the Cayan Tower is a famous building in Dubai mainly due to its helical shape? The unique part? While all the 75 floors of the building have been designed in the same way, every level has been rotated 1.2 degrees (clockwise) as compared to the level below.

This building is considered to be one of the tallest residential buildings globally. Now, this impressive shape also has a very practical purpose – the curve-shape of the building reduces the impact of any strong winds while protecting the interiors from the direct rays of the Sun.
