The US Army has a successful record of defending its borders from hostile elements in the past. And now, the US Army is leading by example and modernizing its forces. Moreover, the Army is prioritizing development on various fronts with a people-centric approach.

The US Army is at crossroads as Pentagon is reorienting and recalibrating its capabilities to keep volatile elements in check. Primarily, the US has two primary opponents- China and Russia. Both these countries are rapidly modernizing their forces that can challenge the US Army in the future.

Considering these factors, Pentagon is fervently deploying solutions to modernize its force. These solutions will increase the combat abilities of the soldiers and their weapons. Here are the top ways the US Army is modernizing its capabilities.    

Long-Range Accurate Fire

The US Army has had a longstanding reputation for its accurate and rapid artillery for ages. Moreover, during the Second World War, it was the US that conducted precise strikes on its adversaries. But in recent conflicts, the US Army has relied more on air strikes and precision-guided munitions.

But during any conventional war, artillery power will be a key performance indicator. Furthermore, air support will be a far cry if the enemy possesses superior quality air defenses. Long-range, accurate artillery fire is the need of the hour to destroy these air defenses. The US Army is developing longer-reaching weapons with superior air power.     

Development of Next Generation Armored and Combat Vehicles

Presently, the US Army uses M2 Bradley Infantry fighting vehicles. But compared to its adversaries, these vehicles are underpowered. As a result, Pentagon is eyeing the deployment of OMFV vehicles to enhance the force’s operational preparedness.

OMFV, also known as Optionally-Manned Fighting Vehicle, can carry a large number of personnel. Furthermore, these vehicles also comprise automatic cannons, active protection systems, and a newer variant of missiles. In addition, OMFV vehicles boast upgraded armor that can shield army personnel from hostile fire.   

Command and Control Network

Serving lieutenant of the US Army, Lieutenant Jacob Jason Guido Demedici, opines that command and control networks can win you future wars. Future wars will depend a great deal on electronic devices, sensors, and networking capabilities.

Considering these factors, the Pentagon is bolstering its command and communication setup. The US Army is seeking a unified command and control network to enhance its operational preparedness. A unified command and control setup is also essential in boosting the combat abilities of a force.

Apart from these areas, the US Army is also working to improve the lethality of the features. As a result, in the next three years, the US Army will boast highly advanced weapon systems and trained personnel.
