  3. Before you get a permanent driving licence, you must have your learner’s licence. So, fill in your learner’s licence details and your date of birth.

  7. Next, book a driving test slot with your nearest RTO in your city

The government has shifted the process of renewing driving licences online as well. So, if your it has expired or is about to, you can apply for a renewal easily with a few easy clicks.

  1. Visit the government website at https://sarathi.parivahan.gov.in.
  2. Click on ‘Services on DL (Renewal/ Duplicate/ AEDL/ IDP/ Others)’ under the ‘Driving licence’ tab on the menu bar. Alternatively, click on ‘Apply for Duplicate DL’ from among the many tab options on the screen.
  3.  Again, a new page will show you the various stages of filling the application form. Click on ‘Continue’.
  4. Enter in your it number details and your date of birth and click on proceed.

  6. You may also be asked to upload a photo and scanned signature; this step is applicable only to select states
  7. Pay the application fee and verify the payment status

You can check your driving licence application status online in a few easy steps. Here is what you need to do:

  1. Visit the official government website at https://parivahan.gov.in/parivahan/
  2. Select your state after which a new page will open with many options available
  3. Click on the ‘Application Status’ tab on the right side of the screen on the options bar
  4.  A page will open where you will have to fill in your application number and date of birth. Fill in the required details and then hit submit
  5. You will now be able to view the status of your driving licence application.

You can also check your driving licence application status online through the state transport website for your state. Here is what you can do:

  1. Visit your state’s official transport website
  2. Click on the tab for Driving licence and Learner’s licence, these could be given as ‘DL and LL’
  3. A new page will open where you should click on the ‘Know your application’ tab
  4. Enter your application number and date of birth, if asked
  5. You will be directed to a page that will show you the status of your driving licence
