History

Big Hit Entertainment signed the vocal group 8Eight in 2007 after the company was founded on February 1, 2005. The business and JYP Entertainment agreed to a joint management agreement for the boy band 2 AM in 2010.

That same year, Bang Si-hyuk signed RM as the group’s founding member and held nationwide auditions to find the remaining members.

This partnership would see Big Hit America and Geffen Records form a joint venture to create a Los Angeles-based record label and to create a pop group with K-pop influences.

Big Hit and this collaboration led to an agreement in October for BTS will switch from Sony Music’s Columbia Records and The Orchard to Universal for distribution in the United States and several other nations.

From 2021 onwards: As Big Hit Music

Big Hit Entertainment announced on March 19, 2021, that it had changed its name to Hybe Corporation to highlight the breadth of its business divisions and ventures. The Big Hit record label was renamed Big Hit Music as a result of the change. 

Through a board resolution on April 1, 2021, Hybe declared that it would separate its label division (Big Hit Music) from itself in order to find a new company. Hype will own all of the new company’s stock. Big Hit Music was separated from Hybe on July 1, 2021, and it now belongs to Hybe.

Philanthropy

The 4/16 Sewol Families for Truth and A Safer Society, a group affiliated with the families. It affected by the 2014 Sewol Ferry Disaster art of zoo, received $30 million from Big Hit Entertainment in 2017.

During the George Floyd protests in June 2020. Big Hit and BTS donated $1 million to support the Black Lives Matter movement.
